Uceny eyes history as friends and family show support here and ...

No American woman has ever won a medal in the 1,500 meter run at the Olympics, but Friday afternoon, Plymouth's Morgan Uceny will have her eyes on history, and so does her hometown.

Whether its all the way in London, or right here in Michiana, there is a special feeling in the air for Uceny?s fans.

When Morgan Uceny starts her Olympic run for gold on Friday, the Plymouth football team will be holding the bus for their scrimmage in order to watch history.

"There's no 15 yard penalty for starting a scrimmage late,? said Plymouth Football coach John Barron. ?I think Cory Yeoman and the Penn staff will be ok if we are going to be a little late getting to the scrimmage. We are going to watch Mo. That's the biggest thing right now is supporting her, cheering her on. I know we're thousands of miles away but this is very important to our community."

Morgan's parents aren?t thousands of miles away from their daughter. They are in London in person, ready to see if their kid will become an Olympic champion.

"I can;t even imagine what that would be like,? said her dad Marty Uceny. ?That would be the biggest party ever we would keep London up all night, I know that."

Morgan knows what it will take to win Friday.

"A race is a race and it comes down to who wants it to the most and that's for any distances. It comes down to guts and who wants it the most," said Uceny

But what will it feel like to win? What would it mean to win a gold medal?

"I don't even know. I don't think honestly I would know what that would feel like,? said Uceny. ?Winning the U.S. Championships and the Diamond League events is one thing, but the Olympics is on a whole new level. I don't even know what it would feel like to get a medal. Hopefully I will find out."

One thing is for sure, she will have her entire hometown cheering her on.

Uceny's race will take place at 3:50 p.m. on Friday afternoon. It can be watched live on nbcolympics.com.

The race is also expected to air on WNDU-TV during Friday's primetime coverage, though the exact time has not been released yet.
