Speaking and Writing Are Different | 365 Stories In a Year (and a ...

I?ve contended for a long time that the basics of speaking and writing are similar, it?s just that speaking is a first draft. There is, however, a very distinct difference betweenthe two skills.

In writing everything is done with the words, which must convey all the emotion and information to the reader.

In speaking there is the added dimension of the speaker?s presence, the use of voice variety, gestures, and positioning to also create emotional power.

Speaking is still a form of writing. It just has more aspects to it than writing on paper does.
