A good question to ask; does my business need an apprentice? Apprentices can fill skills gaps within your organization while delivering real returns to your bottom line.
Combining great work-based experience with technical training, apprenticeships can last anywhere between one to four years.
Apprenticeships offer an invaluable route into employment and gaining new skills and experience. Often they can lead towards formal qualifications such as National Vocational Qualifications.
The government provide funding for certain apprenticeship training, giving incentive to businesses to include apprentices on their workforce.
In addition, Hampshire County Council run their own Apprenticeship scheme across the organization. Aimed at developing the skills of young residents in Hampshire they contribute to the local economy and the work of the council itself.
The National Apprenticeship Service can provide apprenticeship grants with a value of ?1,500. The ?1,500 is in addition to the training costs of the Apprenticeship Framework which are met in full for young people aged 16 to 18 and 50% for those aged 19 to 24.
Priority for funding is given to small and medium-sized employers with less than 50 employees in England but the funding is available to all small and medium-sized businesses. Companies with 250 or more employees are not eligible for this scheme.
With all this in mind, it makes great sense to consider employing apprentices within your own business or organization. Offering a fresh enthusiastic approach to work and often keen to gain invaluable work skills and experience they will have much to offer in return.
