Egyptians flood streets to demand Morsi quit

NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports from Cairo where a large crowd of people are gathered to protest Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi's handling of the country one year after he was elected.

By Daniel Arkin, Staff Writer, NBC News

Tens of thousands of opponents and supporters of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi flooded the streets of Cairo on Sunday ahead of competing protests that observers warn could descend into mayhem and bloodshed.

Swarms of anti-government demonstrators massed in Tahrir Square, crucible of the 2011 so-called ?Arab Spring? uprisings?that overthrew autocratic leader?Hosni Mubarak.

"The people want the fall of the regime!" they chanted, many waving national flags ? this time not against an aging dictator but against their first ever elected leader, who took office only a year ago to the day.

Protesters opposing Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi shout slogans against him and brotherhood members during a protest at Tahrir square in Cairo June 30, 2013.

At the same time, legions of Morsi's allies were assembling outside the Rabia al-Adawiya Mosque near the Ittihadiya?presidential palace, some wearing military-style regalia and carrying shields and clubs, according to The Associated Press.

Although both sides have pledged to keep the peace, observers worry that Sunday's rallies could set off a wave of ugly violence. At least seven people, including an American college student from Maryland, have been killed in clashes in the last week, with hundreds of others wounded.

The planned protests represent the peak of a year of turbulence and turmoil in which Egypt has been rocked by scores of political crises, dozens of bloody clashes and a declining economy that has set off a spate of power outages, fuel shortages, skyrocketing prices and routine lawlessness and crime.

The opposing sides of the conflict are representative of the bitter political, social, and religious divisions in contemporary Egypt.

The Muslim Brotherhood and other hard-line groups form the backbone of the pro-Morsi camp. Many of Morsi's proponents have characterized the protests as a conspiracy by Mubarak's political allies to return the former leader to power.

The anti-government movement brings together secular and liberal Egyptians, moderate Muslims and Christians, and wide swaths of the general public the opposition says has rejected the Islamists and their regime.

Liberal leaders say nearly half all Egyptian voters ? some 22 million people ? have signed a petition calling for new elections.

"We all feel we're walking on a dead-end road and that the country will collapse," said Mohamed El-Baradei, a former U.N. nuclear watchdog chief, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and now liberal party leader in his homeland.

Despite mounting pressure, Morsi did not buckle in advance of the preplanned protests, dismissing the widespread dissent as an undemocratic assault on his electoral legitimacy, Reuters reported.

Mohamed Abd El Ghany / Reuters

Protesters opposing Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi shout slogans against him and members of the Muslim Brotherhood during a demonstration in Tahrir square in Cairo June 30, 2013.

But he also proposed to make changes to the new, Islamist-inflected constitution, saying he was not personally responsible for controversial clauses on religious authority, which stirred up liberal animosity and triggered the popular revolt, according to Reuters.

For many Egyptians, though, all the turmoil that has followed the Arab Spring has just made life harder. Standing by his lonely barrow at an eerily quiet downtown Cairo street market, 23-year-old Zeeka was afraid more violence was coming.

"We're not for one side or the other," he told Reuters. "What's happening now in Egypt is shameful. There is no work, thugs are everywhere ... I won't go out to any protest.

"It's nothing to do with me. I'm a tomato guy."

Protests in Egypt have occurred around the country in the last few days, with more expected Sunday. The demonstrations come two years after former president Hosni Mubarak was removed from power, and some are hoping the current protests will unseat Egypt's current leader Muhammed Morsi. NBC's Aymen Mohyeldin reports.

Visiting sub-Saharan Africa, President Barack Obama has cautioned that rancor in the largest Arab country could rattle the region.

"Every party has to denounce violence," Obama said in Pretoria, South Africa, on Saturday. "We'd like to see the opposition and President Morsi engage in a more constructive conversation about how they move their country forward because nobody is benefiting from the current stalemate."

?Washington has evacuated non-essential personnel and redoubled security at its diplomatic missions in Egypt.

Photographer drags TuFace, wife to court over wedding pictures

Justice Mohammed Idris of? the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos
has fixed? October 16, 2013 for the commencement of trial in a N120
million copyright suit filed against popular music? star, Innocent
Idibia, a.k.a. TuFace, his wife, Annie Idibia and their manager,
Anthonio Anifite over? photographs allegedly taken at the recent
traditional wedding of the musician and his wife in Akwa Ibom State.

Abuja based photographer, Emmanuel Okolo, who is the plaintiff in the suit alongside his studio, Papilonmexy? filed suit against the defendants.

He is asking for six reliefs, two of which include N100 million in general damages and N20million in exemplary damages.

At the resumed hearing of the case yesterday, neither TuFace nor his wife was represented in court. Anifite who is the second defendant was however represented by his counsel, J.O Uttute.

Meanwhile, a mild drama ensued when the judge openly admonished Uttute after the latter claimed that he had filed his defence when he had not done so.

The judge warned him not to come to this court again if he was not prepared for the case.? ?You told me that you have filed your response, but looking through here, there is nothing to that effect. And you are even smiling. Do you think you are here to joke? Never come to this court again if you are not prepared. You don?t even know when the case was filed and you are not prepared for it,? said the judge.

Also,? the plaintiff?s counsel,? Habeeb Oredola expressed worry over the defendants? inability to appear before the court? or? be represented by a counsel after they were served with the writs of summon.

In the writ of summon, Okolo and his studio claimed they were contracted by TuFace?s wife through a third party, identified as Ms Chineze Anyaene to take photo shots at the traditional wedding held in Eket, Akwa Ibom state in March, 2013.

The plaintiff said, he was reluctant at the beginning since the offer was coming through a third party, but later accepted after he was convinced that the offer was actually with the blessing of the first defendant.

Annie Idibia was said to have later contacted the photographer after the wedding and demanded for the printing of 10 of the high resolution pictures taken.

Samsung pays Apple $1 Billion sending 30 trucks full of 5 cent coins

http://news-hound.net/samsung-pays-a...-5-cent-coins/
Epic Trolling from Samsung

This morning more than 30 trucks filled with 5-cent coins arrived at Apple?s headquarters in California. Initially, the security company that protects the facility said the trucks were in the wrong place, but minutes later, Tim Cook (Apple CEO) received a call from Samsung CEO explaining that they will pay $1 billion dollars for the fine recently ruled against the South Korean company in this way.

The funny part is that the signed document does not specify a single payment method, so Samsung is entitled to send the creators of the iPhone their billion dollars in the way they deem best.

This dirty but genius geek troll play is a new headache to Apple executives as they will need to put in long hours counting all that money, to check if it is all there and to try to deposit it crossing fingers to hope a bank will accept all the coins.

Lee Kun-hee, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, told the media that his company is not going to be intimidated by a group of ?geeks with style? and that if they want to play dirty, they also know how to do it.

You can use your coins to buy refreshments at the little machine for life or melt the coins to make computers, that?s not my problem, I already paid them and fulfilled the law.

A total of 20 billion coins, delivery hope to finish this week.

Let?s see how Apple will respond to this.

this is just awesome...

Why do Students Suffer with Math Phobia? | Health and Fitness

?A lot of students and ?some? adults suffer from ?Mathematics? Phobia. ?What is mathematics? phobia? ?Math phobia is ?simply? the fear of math. ?Many people will do what ever ?it takes? to avoid math at all costs. ?Math Phobia starts at an early age and can be ?reinforced? by parents and teachers by keeping students from facing their ?phobia? by allowing ?them to use calculators when they are not comfortable with ?doing the arithametic by hand. ??Later on? , many teachers will avoid assigning the problems that ?create? the anxiety . ?This sounds ?like??a good? idea? , except ?children? ?do not? have to face ?their fears? . The ?anxiety? is there and ?students? have been allowed to avoid the ?mathematics? that ?creates the stress. Another cause? of math fear can be adults that also fear math . ?These adults will say ?something? like, ?That?s ok. ?I?m not good at math either.? Also, there are some ?teachers? in ?elementary? grades that are also phobic in ?mathematics? . ?They will try to teach young children in math when they themselves do not have a good grasp of ?mathematics? . ?These teachers will teach right out of a book and if students don?t understand they are ?unable? to teach them in a way the students can understand. ?Please understand , most ?educators? in primary grades are excellent teachers. ?Only a small percentage have fear of math.?

The signs of Math phobia in children can be hard to detect. ?There are a few things parents can look for in their children. ?

  • Here are a few signs that your child may be suffering from a fear of math.
  • if a child seems to guess at answers instead of working them out or finding a plan to solve them.
  • if a child does everything possible to avoid working word problems.
  • If a child isn?t doing math assignments and seems to feel sick at the thought of it.

So, what can be done to help children with a math phobia. ?Start early with your child. ?If you have a phobia of math, do not share this with your child. ?Instead, find a source for math help like ?online geometry??,??virtual math lab?, ?virtual algebra?. ?If you are a teacher, understand the math before you teach it. ?If needed, go take some classes to refresh your math knowledge.? ? ? ? ? ? ?

House panel voting on pressing IRS figure to talk

WASHINGTON (AP) ? A Republican-led House committee is ready to try pressuring a central figure in the Internal Revenue Service investigation to shed light on the episode, five weeks after she sat before that same panel and refused to answer lawmakers' questions.

The planned vote Friday by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee was aimed at Lois Lerner. She is a long-time IRS official whom agency executives put on administrative leave after she revealed that the IRS had singled out tea party groups seeking tax-exempt status for tough scrutiny.

Lerner was subpoenaed to testify to the Oversight Committee on May 22. When she appeared she said she had done nothing wrong, cited her constitutional right to not answer questions and left after a dramatic nine-minute standoff.

Lerner was a high-ranking IRS official in Washington who oversaw the agency's Cincinnati workers who screened applications for tax-exempt status. The IRS has apologized for imposing tough scrutiny on conservative groups who applied for that designation. It has since emerged that progressive groups also appeared on agency screening lists and that some suffered similar treatment.

Three congressional committees are investigating the IRS treatment of conservative groups, as is the Justice Department and the new leaders of the IRS itself. House Democrats are trying to expand the investigation to include how progressive groups were treated.

On Friday, the Oversight Committee was expected to approve a resolution along party lines stating that Lerner forfeited her right to remain silent by making opening remarks at last month's hearing.

Lerner's attorney, William W. Taylor, contested that theory in an email this week.

"Protesting your innocence and invoking right not to answer questions, which is what she did, is not a waiver. Legions of authority on our side," he wrote.

Taylor said in an email on Thursday that neither he nor Lerner would attend Friday's committee session.

House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., expressed hope that the vote would motivate Lerner to return to the committee. The vote could lead to a deal under which Lerner testifies with limited immunity, or to contempt charges if she continues to insist on her Fifth Amendment rights, said a GOP committee aide who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal Republican thinking.

The resolution states that "a witness may not testify voluntarily about a subject and then invoke the privilege against self-incrimination when questioned about the details."

Several Republicans on the committee raised objections last month after Lerner invoked the Fifth Amendment.

Democrats said Issa rejected their request to allow legal experts with differing views on whether Lerner had waived her right not to respond to questions by giving testimony proclaiming her innocence.

On Thursday, the controversy moved in another direction as a clash escalated between the Treasury Department inspector general who investigated the IRS and congressional Democrats who called his probe of the agency misleading.

In a letter to lawmakers released Thursday, J. Russell George said his investigation found "progressives" was not among the inappropriate terms IRS screeners used to decide if groups merited close scrutiny for political work. Too much political activity can disqualify an applicant for a tax-exempt designation.

But George also wrote that "additional research" by his investigators found that of 298 applicants for tax-exempt status that the IRS flagged for possible political involvement between 2010 and 2012, six had "progress" or "progressive" in their names. Fourteen other cases with "progress" or "progressive" in the group's name were not sidetracked for additional examination, he wrote.

While 30 percent of such groups got special attention because of possible political work, every applicant for tax-exempt status with "tea party," ''patriots" or "9/12" in their names was set aside for screening, George said.

The term "progressives" did appear on some lists released earlier this week by House Democrats that also included "tea party" and that IRS workers used to watch for groups that might merit tough exams. But George's letter noted that "progressives" appeared on a different part of those lists and said that such groups were sent to different screeners from the ones who processed tea party applications.

Rep. Sander Levin of Michigan, top Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, said George should have revealed the appearance of progressive groups on the lists and the second set of screeners before now.

"The failure of the IG's audit to acknowledge these facts is a fundamental flaw in the foundation of the investigation and the public's perception of this issue," said Levin, using the abbreviation for inspector general.

VIP wedding to celebrate gays' big day

Auckland will put on VIP treatment for one of the first gay marriages in New Zealand - officials are even donating use of The Cloud for the reception.

A public vote will decide which of five couples will celebrate their wedding and reception in spectacular style.

The ZM radio station is billing it as "the most fabulous gay wedding ever", and will name one couple each day this week.

The winners of the public vote will be announced on July 26, and they will marry at 8am on the day the Marriage Amendment Act comes into effect, August 19.

And what a wedding it will be. The ceremony is at St Matthew in the City Anglican church. Traffic engineers will then give the couple VIP treatment, ensuring every traffic light is green for them as their horse and carriage makes its way to the waterfront for a reception at The Cloud on Queens Wharf.

Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development is giving the winning couple a surprise "Auckland Destination" package. Chief executive Brett O'Riley said the city was supporting same-sex marriage.

If Auckland wanted to be the most liveable city in the world, he said, it was important to embrace every aspect of a modern society.

However, Anglican Church hierarchy have not yet agreed to ministers celebrating same-sex marriages, so the couple will not be allowed to sign the wedding register in the church ceremony.

Snowden's father says former contractor may return if conditions met

By Susan Heavey

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The father of former U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden said in an interview that while he has not had recent contact with him, he is reasonably confident his son would return to the United States if certain conditions were met.

Those conditions could include not detaining Snowden before trial, not subjecting him to a gag order and letting him choose the location of his trial, NBC News said on Friday.

The NBC report added that Lonnie Snowden plans to make those points in a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to be sent through his lawyer later on Friday. Representatives for the Justice Department could not be reached immediately for comment on the letter.

Lonnie Snowden, in part of the NBC interview that aired on the "Today Show," also said he is concerned that his son, a former contractor for the National Security Agency, was being manipulated by others, including people from the anti-government secrecy group WikiLeaks.

"I am concerned about those who surround him," he told NBC. "Wikileaks - if you look at past history - their focus isn't necessarily the Constitution of the United States. It's simply to release as much information as possible. So that alone is a concern for me."

Edward Snowden, an American, fled the United States to Hong Kong in May, a few weeks before publication in the Guardian and the Washington Post of details he said he provided about secret U.S. government surveillance of Internet and phone traffic.

He faces espionage charges in the United States and has requested political asylum in Ecuador. He has not been seen since he arrived in Moscow on Sunday, but Russian officials said he was in a transit area at Sheremetyevo airport.

Snowden's father said he has not had contact with his son since April, NBC reported.

"I love him. I would like to have the opportunity to communicate with him. I don't want to put him in peril," he said in the interview.

Lonnie Snowden said he did not think his son had committed treason, even though his son broke U.S. laws in releasing details about the federal monitoring programs.

"He has betrayed his government, but I don't believe that he's betrayed the people of the United States," he said.

The Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor's 500 index rose for a third straight day. Bond yields fell for a second day, easing worries that a sudden spike in interest rates could hurt the economy.

Consumer spending rose 0.3 percent last month as incomes increased at the fastest pace in three months, the government reported. The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits fell 9,000 to 346,000 last week. The report added to evidence that the job market is improving modestly.

Stocks?have rallied since Tuesday as investors took advantage of lower prices after a sell-off that lasted till Monday. The plunge came after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said that the central bank could cut back on its stimulus later this year and possibly end it next year, if the economy continued to improve.

The Dow sank 560 points over Wednesday and Thursday of last week. Even with the gains this week the index is still 293 points below where it was June 18, the day before the Fed laid out its plans for how it might wind down its stimulus.

The central bank is buying $85 billion in bonds every month to hold down long-term interest rates and encourage borrowing and spending. Fed stimulus has underpinned a?stock?market rally that started in March 2009 by encouraging investors to put money into risky assets.

"What's driving that market up is that people are realizing that they are in a 'win-win' situation," said Rick Robinson, a regional Chief Investment Officer at Wells Fargo Private Bank. "If you have good economic data that should be good for?stocks, if you have poor economic data ... that means the Fed will probably have its (stimulus) longer."

The Dow closed up 114.35 points, or 0.8 percent, to 15,024.49. The S&P 500 index climbed 9.94 points, or 0.6 percent, to 1,613.20.

Nine of the 10 industry groups in the S&P 500 rose, led by financial?stocks. Materials companies were the only group that fell.

In a sign that investors were once again more confident in holding riskier assets, the Russell 2000 index of small-company?stocks?rose 16.09 points, or 1.7 percent, to 979.92, more than twice as much as the rest of the market.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.48 percent from 2.54 percent late Wednesday. The yield climbed as high 2.66 percent on Monday, the highest since August 2011. The rate has surged since May 3, when it touched its low for the year of 1.63 percent. Concern that the Fed is poised to start pulling back on its stimulus prompted investors to sell bonds, pushing the yield higher.

Investors who have added bonds to their portfolios at the expense of?stocks?should consider reducing their fixed income holdings because yields are likely to rise further, said Doug Cote, chief market strategist at ING Investment Management. Bonds rallied from 2007 to 2012, years that encompassed the financial crisis and the Great Recession. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to a record low of 1.39 percent in July last year.

Microsoft to unveil latest Windows adjustments

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Microsoft is giving people a peek into Windows 8.1, a free update that promises to address some of the gripes people have with the latest version of the company's flagship operating system.

Although the preview version of Windows 8.1 is meant for Microsoft's partners and other technology developers, anyone will be able to download it for free starting Wednesday, exactly eight months since desktops, laptops and tablets with Windows 8 went on sale. The version of the Windows 8.1 update meant for the general public will come out later in the year, though a specific date hasn't been announced.

Many of the new features have been shown off already. A three-day Build conference, which starts Wednesday in San Francisco, will give Microsoft developers a chance to learn more about the new system and try it out. It also will give the company a chance to explain some of the reasoning behind the update and sell developers on Microsoft's ambitions to regain relevance lost to Apple's iPad and various devices running Google's Android software.

There's also speculation that Microsoft could show off a new, smaller version of its Surface tablet computers. One of the new features in Windows 8.1 is the ability to work well on smaller-screen devices.

Windows 8, which was released Oct. 26, was meant to be Microsoft's answer to changing customer behaviors and the rise of tablet computers. The operating system emphasizes touch controls over the mouse and the keyboard, which had been the main way people have interacted with their personal computers since the 1980s.

But some people have been put off by the radical makeover.

Although Microsoft has said it has sold more than 100 million Windows 8 licenses so far, some analysts have blamed the lackluster response to the operating system for a steep drop in PC sales in the first three months of the year, the worst drop since tracking by outside research firms began in 1994.

Among the complaints: the lack of a Start button on the lower left corner of the screen. In previous versions of Windows, that button gave people quick access to programs, settings and other tasks. Microsoft replaced that with a tablet-style, full-screen start page, but that covered up whatever programs people were working on, and it had only favorite programs. Extra steps were needed to access less-used programs. Settings, a search box and other functions were hidden away in a menu that had to be pulled out from the right. How to do that changed depending on whether a mouse or touch was used.

And while Microsoft has encouraged people to use the new tablet-style layout, many programs ? including Microsoft's latest Office software package ? are designed for the older, desktop mode. People were forced into the tablet layout when they start up the machine and had to manually switch the desktop mode each time.

Windows 8.1 will allow people to start in the desktop mode automatically. In that mode, it is restoring a button that resembles the old Start button. Although the Start button will now take people back to the new tablet-style start screen, rather than the old Start menu, the re-introduction of the familiar button may make it easier for longtime Windows users to get accustomed to the changes.

Other new features of Windows 8.1 include more options to use multiple apps. People will get more options to determine how much of the screen each app takes while showing up to four different programs, rather than just two. The update will also offer more integrated search results, showing users previews of websites, apps and documents that are on the device, all at once.

Although Microsoft is addressing much of the criticisms with Windows, it is positioning the update as more than just a fix-up job. From its perspective, the tuneup underscores Microsoft's evolution into a more nimble company capable of moving quickly to respond to customer feedback while also rolling out more innovations for a myriad of Windows devices ? smartphones, tablets or PCs.

It's crucial that Microsoft sets things right with Windows 8.1 because the outlook for the PC market keeps getting gloomier. IDC now expects PC shipments to fall by nearly 8 percent this year, worse than its previous forecast of a 1 percent dip. IDC also anticipates tablets will outsell laptop computers for the first time this year.

The growing popularity of tablets is now being driven largely by less expensive devices with display screens measuring 7 inches to 8 inches diagonally. Microsoft built Windows 8 primarily to run on tablets with 10-inch to 12-inch screens, an oversight that Microsoft is also trying to fix with Windows 8.1.

Microsoft has said the company was working with other manufacturers to make smaller tablets, but it has yet to confirm reports that it is making its own. A smaller Surface with an 8-inch screen would be significantly smaller than its current, 10.6-inch models and would put the Surface in closer competition with Apple's iPad Mini, Google's Nexus 7 and Amazon's Kindle Fire HD.

Such a device would coincide with Intel Corp.'s recent release of a new chip line called Haswell. The company says Haswell chips offer a 50 percent improvement in battery life over the previous generation when playing back high-definition video.

In an indication that Microsoft Corp. is clearing out inventory of a Surface tablet running the lightweight Windows RT operating system, the company is effectively cutting the price of that by including a keyboard cover for free. The cover sells for $120 or $130 on its own.

Microsoft also said this month that it would give buyers of the RT version of Surface the Outlook email and calendar program at no extra charge ? joining other Office freebies Excel, Word and Power Point ? and sweetening the offer for the device that is priced starting at $499. That will come as part of the Windows 8.1 update.

Ford's Wireless Brake Lights Warn Other Drivers There's Traffic Ahead

Ford's Wireless Brake Lights Warn Other Drivers There's Traffic Ahead

In an attempt to improve safety and reduce the number of accidents on the world's curviest roads, Ford has developed an experimental brake light that lets vehicles behind you know there's slow traffic ahead, even if they can't see your lights.

The enhanced brake lights include a wireless transmitter that sends a signal to following vehicles which activates a light on their dashboard indicating there's slow traffic ahead. It's less useful on straight stretches of road where you can see an upcoming traffic jam well before you have to slow down, but when visibility's limited due to bad weather, or on twisty roads where there could be stopped traffic just around the next bend, it gives drivers ample time to ease off the accelerator instead of having to suddenly slam on the brakes.

Ford hasn't said if or when it plans to implement the new technology in upcoming models, but it's a step towards vehicle-to-vehicle communications which will assist in everything from improved traffic and weather reports, to new forms of anonymous road rage. Exciting times. [Ford via PSFK]

Apple's iOS Update Could Kill Snapchat, or at Least Make It Even Creepier

Apple's second attempt at its new iPhone operating system presents a frightening problem for Snapchat users, with a new screenshot feature that, as of right now, makes it possible for creepy users to capture Snaps before they vanish, which totally ruins the point of one of the most popular apps in existence and totally makes you want to use Apple apps instead. The new iOS 7 (Beta 2)?no longer closes the photo-viewing window in Snapchat after a user attempts to take a screenshot,?as spotted by MacRumors's Juli Clover, meaning that no privacy notification gets sent when, say, a creepy guy keeps a photo of a young woman on his phone that was supposed to disappear forever after 10 seconds. Currently, to discourage the saving of Snaps, the app?will alert the sender if a screen grab is taken on the other end. Which is important, but, really, the fun of Snapchat is that the picture messages don't last more than a few seconds. But for users who know the loophole, Apple's new iOS turns Snapchat into a stripped down (and we mean stripped down)?version of picture texting, which is only going to make the app more rife with all that sexting the teens are supposedly up to on this thing.

RELATED: SnapChat, the Coupon App?

This is the kind of miscommunication that could kill Snapchat, whose enthusiasts?have already started to freak out a little bit. The whole basis of the mobile social network is the ephemeral message: Snappers can send things without the consequence of a permanent record. The screenshot notification system acted as a sort of safeguard, a rule so that the app's millions of users wouldn't abuse that social compact in posting more than 150 million photos per day. Of course,?other workarounds?already?exist, but the new iOS setup makes this secret screenshot ability the default. And that idea ? that anyone can save a photo that's not supposed to be saved ? will change the behavior of senders, which will make it all the more difficult to use Snapchat instead of, say, Apple's proprietary iMessage, or even?Facebook's clone?version, Poke.

RELATED: The Time an Entire Campus Dumped Its Booze Because of Snapchat

So, what's Snapchat to do? Of course, the updated iOS is still in beta, which gives Apple permission to change or fix anything it wants until the operating system gets sent out to the wilds of the Snapchat-using public. Perhaps Snapchat could lobby for the old screenshotting rules? Maybe this was even a mistake. Or maybe it was dastardly move to steal back users.

RELATED: What Apple's Flat iOS 7 Design Will Look Like ? When It Gets Here

More realistically, Snapchat will have to figure out another technical way to alert users that they're being watched for more than a couple seconds. The Next Web's Mathew Panzarino is sure that Snapchat developers are already working on that ? though, they haven't yet responded to requests for comment. At the very least, the app has some options to fix things, as Panzarino explains: "One way that Snapchat?could possibly do this is by getting a message directly from the screenshot API, which is currently private," he writes. "Apple could, for instance, allow developers access to just the 'screenshot taken' confirmation message sent by the system. Or it could check the Camera Roll for a new screenshot-sized photo (there are already apps that do this)." So all is not lost for you freaky Snap-chatters after all.?

Hyundai NA CEO Krafcik awarded Automotive Executive of the Year ...

HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA'S JOHN KRAFCIK ACCEPTS 2013 AUTOMOTIVE EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR AWARD

DETROIT, Mich. June 21, 2013 ? The prestigious 2013 Automotive Executive of the Year Award was presented today to John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America. Krafcik received the recognition surrounded by 175 automotive executives and suppliers, as well as Hyundai guests, dealers, customers, and enthusiasts at an invitation-only luncheon held at the historic Detroit Athletic Club.

Noting the unique culture and energy of the automotive industry in southeast Michigan and adding that he expects much of the innovative technology moving forward to come from suppliers, Krafcik said he was "humbled" to accept the award. "I'm just doing what I love," he said. "I accept this award on behalf of the Hyundai team members, dealers, and suppliers, many of whom are in the room today. Congratulations, everyone!"

Krafcik shared a few personal stories about his industry start working at NUMMI and Ford, saying that the first time he ever saw the Toyota Production System in action, he knew it was a game-changer for the industry. Krafcik worked on the International Motor Vehicle program at MIT and helped coin the term "lean manufacturing."

Krafcik took questions from the guests - which ranged from what cars he owns and the future of hybrids and electrics, to the secrets of a successful model launch and how he maintains a strong, high-quality supply chain. Following the presentation of the Automotive Executive of the Year Award by sponsor DNV's Richard Stolk, Krafick headed outside to meet members of the media and others for interviews and photo opportunities at an impressive, onsite display of 2013 and 2014 Hyundai vehicles.

"It the confluence of leadership, teamwork, and great product that consistently gives Hyundai accolade after accolade," said Robert Djurovic, DNV Business Assurance's director of automotive services - North America and executive director of the 2013 Automotive Executive of the Year Award program. "As John puts it so well, when the industry is busy moving to the left, he takes a look there, but will more intently look at the opportunities on the right.

"His leadership created a dream team whose corporate mantra is defy, design, and delight," Djurovic continued. "How often do you hear carmakers use the word 'delight' in describing how they want to affect their customers?"

Huawei Ascend P6 review: a beautiful handset, but performance is lacking

Huawei Ascend P6 review great design but performance is lacking

Well, what do we have here? Okay, let's scrap the faux surprise. The recently confirmed Ascend P6 has landed, and Huawei hopes it will stir interest in the hearts of mobile users. Debuting across Europe, China and Australia in late June / early August with a €449 ($600) price tag, it's asking you to take it seriously, and that's what we'll do.

The mobile market is a fickle place, so it doesn't matter where you are right now; it's all about where you're going. Huawei? Well, it's definitely got its sights set on an upward trajectory. The Ascend P6 is the latest rung on the ladder, intended to elevate the company to mobile greatness. But, with competition stiffer than ever, can it really call a device with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 720p display and 8-megapixel camera a flagship? (For its P-series at least?) Huawei's certainly giving it a try, and it's hoping that beauty, not brawn, will win the day.

The company has run into a hard truth: In the minds of the market "console" means something specific, and the market is not inclined to expand its thinking.
